Building a simple Qt application on Windows with Visual Studio

2014-04-12 1 comment

After preparing the Qt framework, I needed to check if everything works; therefore I built a very simple Qt5.2.1 application, the GUI-equivalent of a “Hello-World” program. Building the sample application Open “Visual Studio 2010” and create a new, blank project: File → New → Project… Visual C++ → General → Empty Project Add a source… »»»

Building Qt 5.2.1 on Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2010

For my first steps with Qt, I wanted to use the 64-bit libraries of Qt 5.2.1 on Windows 7 with Visual Studio 2010; unfortunately the project doesn’t offer a binary package download for this combination, so I had to build the framework myself. After some failures at this (mostly due to out of date tutorials… »»»

Windows 7: Can’t delete/rename/move MKV files

The Problem: When you try to delete, rename or move a Matroska/*.mkv file, you get an error message that the file is currently in use – even if you just started the computer and haven’t opened that file. Searching for that error description I stumbled over several old threads (from 2009 and onwards) with multiple… »»»

Windows 7: (Elevated) Command Prompt Anywhere

The command prompt here power toy was a feature that a lot of users requested be built-in to Windows 7. Microsoft listened, and added it to a secondary context menu. By holding shift and right-clicking a folder, you’ll see additional commands not listed on the standard menu, such as open in new process, copy as… »»»

Windows: Process-Explorer mit vollen Rechten starten

[…] Hat jemand… »»»

Windows: Adding a font to the console

Open the registry (with regedit.exe) and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Microsoft/Windows NT/CurrentVersion/Console/TrueTypeFont Add a key of type REG_SZ with the name 00 and the value Consolas (or whatever the font is called!). Reboot. Apparently the reboot is important otherwise you won’t get the correct results and you might end up with the “MS Sans Serif” font instead.… »»»
